First broadcast in Britain on BBC2 17 Feb 1978
- BUT* this is a file from the programme as repackaged for broadcast abroad. Except for the new narration voiceover, at just over 57 minutes, it is probably essentially as complete as the original.
Much of the content of this programme is very relevant to the school earth science curriculum. The programme covers supernovae and the formation of the earth, plate tectonics, plus clues from meteorites and moon rocks. Research in the UK & USA shown includes rock dating using strontium, dating moon rocks from argon gas content, fossil magnetism revealing continental drift and the theory that a supernova seeded gas cloud became our Solar system.
